“We had up to 20 knots at times,” says Yachting New Zealand Academy Coach, Paul Page. “It was squally with some big black clouds coming through.”

Blair McLay of Torbay Sailing Club once again dominated the Laser class recording four out of four race wins today. He is now well clear of Matt Coutts in second place with an 11 point lead. McLay has had a solid season, his best result placing second at the Laser Nationals in Napier earlier this year.

A tussle for the top spots in the Girls Laser Radial Class means that only three points separate leader Olivia Powrie, Jane Monk and Cushla Hume-Merry. Powrie now has four race wins on the board and sits on 11 points. Monk and Hume-Merry are tied on 14 in preliminary results for the day. A protest is yet to be resolved this evening.

The Tauranga boys 420 crew of Peter Burling and Bruce Kennedy are on fire, often finishing races with a big leading margin. They have now won eight out of nine races showing they can perform in a range of conditions. They conclude day three with seven points showing on the board. Chris Dawson and Scott Illingworth are seven points back on 14.
Georgina Hill and Michelle Kennedy maintain their lead in the girls 420 fleet looking strong going into the final day of racing tomorrow.

Australian Board Sailor Corry Plant is out-classing the local sailors winning all four races again today. Antonnio Cozzolino is still the best performing kiwi and is fighting off Nick Lichtwark to be eligible for selection for the New Zealand Youth Team to be announced tomorrow. Plant sits on seven points, Cozzolino on 15 and Lichtwark on 21.

Steffanie Williams is the strongest female board sailor on the water and holds the lead over Justina Sellers and Kate Ellingham.
